the quiet voice, speaks directly in English and Irish of stories, sites and truths from a life being lived on Inis Oírr. In exploring the value given to knowings given and received, the work reveals the careful act of listening to hear the quiet voice.
One voice speaks of her life on Inis Oírr and it’s connection to the sea; telling of fishermen tales but also of the everyday exchanges that took place between the islanders and the sea. Thus interweaving in her recounting, the incommensurability of the sea and practical issues of everyday life.
By honouring the quiet voice, all voices- soft. lould, strong and quiet, are allowed to speak and be heard.
